3 Ways to Make Your Business More Secure

December 27, 2021

One of the things which today’s business owner fears most is theft. It only stands to reason because there is a growing number of burglaries and attempted burglaries reported literally every day in the news. Some would say that it’s because of the pandemic and unemployed workers, but the reality is, there will always be criminals and there’s no getting around that. If you are looking for ways to make your business more secure, here are three suggestions to start with. Each of these will help protect your premises, giving you some peace of mind whether you are on the premises or have left for the night or weekend.

1. Replace Locks

How many times do you imagine that a once-trusted employee leaves a place of business either voluntarily or through termination with the keys to the business in hand? Whether they turn in the keys or not, you may want to consider changing out those locks in the event they had copies made in the interim. You might want to immediately contact a locksmith to have your locks replaced, whether you have cause for concern or not. Professionals like Arrowhead Locksmith in Mississauga can not only change out the establishments locks but can also suggest better, more secure types of locks for your doors. Some types of windows can actually be lockable and if you have those installed, you might want to consider having Arrowhead change those locks as well. Changing out locks for businesses is something they do more often than you can imagine.

2. CCTV Surveillance

While this is most effective in identifying a vandal or burglar after the fact, it is often because police response time is too slow to actually catch them in the act. In high-volume criminal areas, CCTV surveillance is a definite plus, but be aware of the fact that unless it is monitored 24/7, it may be difficult to stop criminal activity while it is occurring. This is not to say it isn’t effective always; it usually seeks to add an extra layer of protection alongside secure locks on doors and windows.

3. Door and Window Security System

Another thing you can do to protect your place of business is to have security doors and windows installed. There are various types of products you can use, but the two most common are the wired kinds that trigger an alarm if broken and wireless security systems for doors and windows. These are sensor activated and once an intruder breaks the connection, an alarm is triggered. These alarms are usually loud, blaring local alarms as well as those connected to a monitoring station.

Even though CCTV surveillance along with door and window security systems can help prevent intrusion at the time of the act, there are times when nothing other than replacing locks can prevent intrusion before it happens. In the end, most businesses opt to use all three types of security for their premises. What you choose to do for your particular place of business may depend on the value of what you have inside. From privileged personal information on clients to items of real value, it pays to use every tool at your disposal to protect anything that could result in significant loss.
