How to Ensure the Safety of Your House and Belongings While Away

July 22, 2021

When heading away from home for a while, it’s common to worry about the safety of your belongings. What if someone breaks into your house? Will your car be OK? Whether you’re off on a business trip or a relaxing vacation with your family, here’s how to ensure the safety of your house and belongings for the duration of your absence.

Park at the Airport

If you’re taking a plane, increase the security of your car by parking at the airport. Airports have twenty-four-hour surveillance, which means the chances of your car being broken into is far less likely there than parked on a street. Plus, it means you don’t have to worry about paying high cab prices. If you want to save money and ensure a great parking spot, visit Parkon.com.

Let Your Neighbors Know

Letting your neighbors know that you’ll be away means that they can keep an eye on your home, and if anything looks suspicious, they’ll know to contact the police. It’s an extra layer of security!

Get a House Alarm

If your house doesn’t have an alarm, now is the time to install one. It means that if a burglar tries to enter your home, an alarm will go off and likely scare them away. Plus, you can get the police to go check on your home and give you peace of mind.

Use Security Cameras

Another way to increase the security of your home is by using security cameras. By linking it up to your phone, not only does your house remain safer, but it’ll also give you peace of mind while away. When you can see the postman delivering letters and your front porch looking empty at night, you’ll have an easier time relaxing.

Get a Friend to Check-in

To really ensure your home’s safety, give a friend or family member a key to check in on your house every couple of days or so. Get them to send you a couple of pictures, so you know your home is absolutely fine. Plus, they can water your plants, so you don’t get home to drooping leaves!

Hide Your Valuables

Burglars tend to target homes that have obvious valuables, so avoid having your large plasma screen TV in full view of the street. If you have expensive jewelry or anything else of high value in the house, hide it somewhere no one would think to look. For extremely expensive items, you could even get a safe.

Leave a Light on

The last thing you want is for burglars to know your house is empty for a long time, so leave a light on to make it appear that you are at home. They’ll be less likely to target you!

Avoid Posting on Social Media

Another way burglars find out which house is vulnerable is by stalking social media. If a family is posting vacation photos, they know that their house is likely empty and easy to steal from. To avoid this, don’t post on social media until you’ve arrived home. It’ll be nice to have a break from it, anyway!

By using these methods, you can rest assured that your house and belongings are as safe as possible for the time you’re away.
