The Premier League is one of the tightest that it has been for a long time and that is going to mean a competitive final 20 games in this slightly odd 20/21 season. At the beginning of the season, sports writer Ayden Hector wrote that of all the 20 teams, the club to watch were Tottenham Hotspur, and in the beginning of the season that looked to be quite the pick, as Spurs headed up the league. The Christmas period is unforgiving of course and Spurs have dropped 10 points from winning positions during that team, inducing consternation for so many fans. Spurs fans however, should not be dismayed, as this is turning into a very good time for them, and here is why.
Resurgence of Tanguy
There were big concerns for record signing Tanguy Ndombele last season, who appeared lazy and far too lethargic for this league. There were suggestions that he would be sold and Mourinho also began to leave him out, and dig him out in press conferences. Those hard ball tactics from Mourinho however have clearly paid off because Tanguy is now a mean, lean football machine, who is doing it at both ends of the pitch. This is critical to the future success of Spurs.
Kane and Son
Right now we are watching Harry Kane playing the best football of his life, and that is rubbing off on the magical Heung-Min Son, who is also n blistering form. There is no pair like these two anywhere in the world and they are absolutely smashing any records and statistics which have existed regarding two players interacting. The Spurs team do need more from other players, but these two right now are just a joy to watch.
Carabao Cup
Spurs fans would do well to remember that they are in the final of the Carabao Cup against Manchester City in April, and that is a real chance for them to break the duck and get some silverware that they have long craved. People write of this cup as not being important enough, but the truth is that any trophy is worth winning and for Spurs, it could certainly kickstart a more successful period over the coming seasons.
Depth of the Team
It was very unfair on Mauricio Pochettino that he was not given the funds or the resources to rebuild an aging squad, but that is what Mourinho has been given the chance to do, and the results are great. In every position now Spurs have real quality and competition for places, and that is what is keeping those players so focused. This not only gives the team the chance to play a variety of formations and strategies, but it also covers injuries and adds pressure to those who want to get game time. Mourinho expects his places to give blood, sweat and tears for those places, and that is what to expect when you have so many high quality options.
This is a good time Spurs fans.
