As daft as it sounds, whenever you and your family are planning a camping trip in the Lake District or a week by the sea in Devon, as just two examples, the simple fact that you are able to take your own car or caravan makes things infinitely easier.
This way, of course, you are able to bring as many of your belongings, clothing options and toys and games for your children as will physically fit inside your vehicle, but if your next family holiday involves flying to your destination, things become considerably more complex.
With this in mind, continue reading to discover four ways to plan a stress-free holiday abroad with the family.
Begin to Adjust Your Children’s Sleep Schedule Beforehand
First and foremost, especially if your flight will be of the long-haul variety, an effective way of ensuring that your children have the best possible chance of a relaxed and sleepy flight is to start to adjust their sleeping schedule before you fly.
Ideally, as long as you are traveling within the school holidays or half term, around four or five days before the day of your flight, find out the time difference between home and your destination and start putting your children to bed to reflect this new timing.
Another good idea is to try your best to book a night flight, as this way there is obviously a higher likelihood that your children will settle down on the plane.
Book a Taxi to the Airport
When you pre-book your transport to the airport from your house, make sure that you only ever use a highly recommended taxi firm, such as premier cabs, who will not only guarantee you that they will be there at the exact time you request, but that the fee they quote you will not change.
Thousands of people in this country miss their flights every year, mainly due to transportation issues, such as an unforeseen diversion on the motorway, for example, and the last thing you need is the stress and worry of being late for your plane.
Make Sure Everyone Has Travel Insurance
Not only should you and your partner have comprehensive travel insurance, but it is also crucial to insure your children on their own separate policies too, rather than simply buying the cheapest group option.
Make sure you choose a reputable and renowned insurance company and of course, read every bit of small print so that you understand what you are covered for and also be sure to print out hard copies of your policies and bring them with you.
Flying with Your Children
When it comes to the flight itself, you may be feeling a certain amount of trepidation when it comes to flying with small children and babies and as such, the more prepared you are, the more likely it will be that your flight will be incident free.
Make sure you bring along a host of activities, the smaller the better, that your children can occupy themselves with on the plane, such as colouring books and picture books, as well as their headphones and a tablet and their favourite cuddly toy and blanket.
