When the night falls in Mexico City there are plenty of options as to what you can do with your time. There are some great bars and clubs and restaurants are bustling on an evening in this city. If however you are in town on a Friday or a Sunday, then one of the best ways for you to spend your evening is to go and see the incredible Lucha Libre.
This is a wrestling event which has taken place through Mexico for decades. I was first taken to a show by my friend Rose Burillo and to be honest, I did have my reservations. I am not really a fan of wrestling but I went along anyway and ended up having one of the best nights that I have had in Mexico City. If you are up for something new, here is why you should go and see the Lucha Libre at Arena Mexico.
Incredible Athletes
Make no mistake about the fact that the fighters here are incredible athletes and they train so incredibly hard to put on a great show. I have to be honest that many of these wrestlers could probably easily make a career as a gymnast, such is the incredible displays that they put on. Even if you don’t like wrestling, there is something seriously impressive about what these guys and girls do.
Hilarious Show
When it comes to this kind of show the number one thing that they are looking to do is entertain you, and that is certainly what you get. The wrestling is one thing but the best bit about these shows in particular is that they are absolutely hilarious. There is very much a slapstick kind of humor which you can expect at this show and that makes going so much more worthwhile.
Low Cost
In the US you could probably expect an event like this to cost a good chunk of change, but this is not the case at all here in Mexico City. The cheapest seats in the area cost just $10 and you can still get a great view from where you are sat. Once you are inside the arena things are also cheap and that is why going and enjoying some food and drinks from your seat makes so much sense. A low cost evening full of fun.
Fan Interaction
The crowd absolutely loves to get involved with what is happening at the Lucha Libre and they will gladly cheer and goad in equal measure depending on who is fighting. Those who are shouting in the crowd may not be the kind of people that you expect either, with young kids and old ladies both giving their fair share of abuse to the fighters. This makes the atmosphere so much better and it adds something very special to the evening on the whole.
Friday nights are the best time to go, and it is the perfect way to spend an evening in Mexico City.
